The ability of students to design and draft images of both real and imagined devices in which others can convert into working projects is the backbone of the Clean Energy Technology program at our school. Projecting what the mind sees as well as the eyes, is a fundamental requirement for the class participants. As simple as it may sound, many students are ultimately stymied from the very beginning of the activity. Imagine, trying to draw a straight line on a sheet of paper with a plastic or wooden ruler with marred edges and missing numerical increments. Nothing is more frustrating than to lose track of your concentration as you draw or spend precious class time waiting to use a straight edged ruler that is not fragmented, broken, or littered with initials or most uncolorful words and phrases. Procuring these rulers would not only give students a strong, clean, edge to create their drawings, and a no wait interval, it will also provide another function. It will allow them to measure objects on a smaller scale and learn how to "read" the rulers' alignment of measuring increments and symbols which eludes most students.
