Many of our students come to school to get their basic needs met. Before we can focus on any academics, my colleagues and I ensure that our students are provided with food, clothing, emotional stability, and love. We have food and clothing stocking our storage areas thanks to patron donations and fulfilled grants. In addition to those physical needs met, emotional stability is our area of expertise and love is abundant. This year I would like to add clean air to the list in order to create the most safe environment I can for my students. With the addition of an Air Doctor air purifier, I hope to help my students stay as healthy as possible. I spend a lot of time teaching my Kindergarten students basic hygiene, manners and etiquette each year. Alas, our classroom continues to be a giant Petri dish--one that virologists would dream about. This school year will look very different than previous years. Even if it was a year without COVID, clean air is an essential. Our building is dated and our kids are germy. Add in a virus with many unknowns and the thought keeping a classroom full of kids healthy is quite overwhelming. When we are in school--interacting face to face--I'd like to create the healthiest environment possible. An air purifier won't solve all of the issues but it is one thing I can add to our room that can improve the quality of life for my students this year and in future years.
