My project is geared towards finding materials and strategies to keep my students engaged during instruction. My desire is to hear the students excited about coming to my class and enjoying the lessons. I have been teaching for quite some time and know that it takes a lot to keep the students engaged. With that being said, I am in need of various teaching books, CD's, and guides that will address enhancing my instruction to meet the needs of the 21st century learner. Research continues to show that children who participate in quality music programs go on to earn higher test scores and have a greater likelihood of post secondary success than their peers who don’t — yet music programs across the country lack support, commitment and funding. My music classroom is designed to instruct students using national arts standards that lead musical activities such as singing, playing instruments, movement, listening and analyzing various styles of music. There is no set curriculum for my district and finding lessons to teach every week becomes very time consuming. If I were able to receive these materials it would allow me to focus more or delivery of instruction versus timely lesson plan design. Enhanced instruction for my students means enhanced engagement, creativity, and student success.
