I have requested a set of notebooks for each of my students in a high school that serves at-risk youth. I have also requested a class set of highlighters to assist in various group assignments. It is my belief that these supplies will provide greater access for students to better chart their growth as writers in my classroom. My goal is to improve the writing skills of my students not only through continual reflection but also by showing them this growth throughout the year. My students rarely realize how their academic writing skills have grown as they rarely hold on to their work, but I believe that using these notebooks in daily assignments with regular reflection and peer grading will provide them the necessary skills to enhance their skills. Perhaps the weakest area of any incoming college freshman is a lack of general writing skill and this is why I have dedicated so much of my classroom to that skill. Please help me in this journey. Thank you.
