As previously stated, my students have various emotional, personal, and academic needs that all come into play in our classroom. I believe the flexible seating options that myself and my students are hoping for would keep them engaged and active in their learning. Currently, we are using regular seats and the whole group carpet time. There are only so many times a day that transitioning between the two keeps the students attentive and active in learning. All of the options will give students a means to move and wiggle during a lesson without being disruptive, and having multiple forms of seatings gives them even more of an opportunity to find something that works for their own needs! Various forms of flexible seating would also give my students the chance to make their own choices and take responsibility in their learning. Each day, students would get to decide where/which seating they would be using. This gives them the choice of getting what they want, but also makes them take responsibility in the sense that they will have the think about things such as, "is this seat a good idea for me", "do I want to sit here to help my focus and learning, or just to sit by my friend", etc. I have personally witnessed this system of seating in another educator's classroom whom also taught first grade, and I was blown away by the amount of ownership the students took over their options and decisions. Another reason that I love this type of seating is that it can really open up a room or group to collaboration. Each seating style can easily be moved around if needed for a group project or meeting of students.
