Our classroom is a specialized autism support program for children ages 3-5. Many of our students are non-verbal and become easily frustrated due to their lack of ability to communicate their wants, needs, and feelings. These items will allow us to model visual representation and expression of emotions with non-verbal children. Deep breathing exercises taught in the requested book and the oversized soft pillow will be a perfect place for students to decompress when they are feeling overwhelmed due to sensory issues. By assisting our students to appropriately express their feelings and to self-regulate their emotions, not only will tantrum behaviors decrease within our classroom, but students will have more productive time to be fully engaged in their learning programs.
