Allowing students to choose how and where they want to sit to learn, do their work, or help them focus is very beneficial for energetic learners. Junior high students in general are very fidgety and constantly need to move to stay engaged. So when students are given a flexible seating option, they will choose what will best help them succeed and stay focused. Students are much less distracted and get more accomplished when they can choose a comfortable learning space. This is most helpful for my students with ADD or ADHD. They work so much better when they are sitting in a place where they are able to move and fidget without distracting other students, especially during tests. These students can roll on a ball rather than tap their foot, or wobble rather than constantly shifting in their seat. This also helps them take less breaks during tests and taking that time away from them since they are able to move around while sitting.
