The flexible seating materials I have requested for this project already have a home and spaces to be created in my classroom. Over the school year, I have become aware of the need of comfortable spaces in my classroom for students to collaborate or work quietly away from their desks. In a culture of such diversity, space needs to be made for children to discuss and learn together in a form that is less traditional. Many of my ELL students find discomfort sharing the whole group and find their voices in small groups or with a partner, by donating to this project you can help these young voices. For example, I have a student who is very shy and English is his second language and shares amazing ideas when working with a partner away from the group. The outcome of creating these spaces will be more learning and growing in ways traditional seating cannot provide. My goal is to promote that element of safety and comfort in my classroom for all students. My second graders and I will be so grateful for your contribution.
