My students will observe and record data on the life cycles of the butterfly larva and frog (tadpole). Students will learn about the development of animals who start as an egg and mature to an adult and life cycles. They will keep qualitative and quantitative data in their science notebooks. They will read books and complete activities to go along with these materials. This hands-on experience also teaches students to care for and respect nature. Practical life is an area of the Montessori curriculum in which students learn grace and courtesy. Having living creatures in the classroom aids in this.
