The materials and activities I have requested for this project all allow for open-ended play and discovery. Children's minds are designed to learn through the kind of hands-on discovery that these items encourage. As students build and create with these materials, they will be engaged in the 4 C's - cooperation, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Working with peers on a project gives students the opportunity to practice and develop critical Social Emotion Learning competencies. As they work together to solve problems, my students will learn to discuss, negotiate, and resolve conflicts. They will also develop a richer vocabulary through their discussions. The activities can be used in many different ways, enabling my students to use their imaginations and creativity. They will develop critical thinking and problem solving skills as they plan, design, create, and test their designs. These activities will also help them develop persistence and self-confidence as design (and redesign) their ideas.
