Students explore all types of design in Theatre Arts class. They study plays, research and apply costume, makeup, mask, and set design elements all year long. Some designs are entered in competition others are for exploration and special projects. Most theatre arts students prefer not to act on stage but rather express their creativity through design. We use clay, paint, puppetry, makeup and model sets to analyze plays, both ancient from the Greeks to Shakespeare and contemporary. Currently, we are working on Las Soldaderas, a play about female Mexican revolutionaries. We will use supplies for all aspects of theatrical design.
