Each year we try and bring a middle school author to our school. Everyone reads a book from our author in class and then the books are given away to our students so they can come to the book signing. We try to bring diverse, interesting authors to our school and over the years, I've been amazed at the impact these authors have had on our children and their perception of reading and writing. "This is the first book I've ever finished!" One of our reluctant readers told me after reading The Skin I'm In by Sharon Flake. Sharon was our visiting author that year. Seeing a writer in person and reading their books brings reading to life for our students. Because everyone at the school reads the author's book and then we give them away, I need a large number of books. Funding this project will have far reaching consequences. Please consider putting a book into a child's hand. Thank You!!!
