Every year, students do history fair and science fair projects. The books in the library for these subjects are an average of twenty years old! With new books in these areas, students will have up-to-date and correct information for projects and personal learning. Science and technology teachers will also be able to utilize the books in their classrooms. The science and technology books will be chosen based on reviews and reading level. The average price of a non-fiction library book is a pricey $21! For small library budgets, this greatly limits the number of books that can be purchased. The library state standards suggest a ratio of 20:1 books per student. We are currently at 15:1.
