This book is essential for my students to optimize their learning. We are preparing to explore a variety of texts to gain a deep understanding of the value in technology and innovation in our next unit of study. Specifically, the students will be challenged to answer the essential question: What value does technology bring to people's lives? This book, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, brings relevance and highlights the true story of a boy whose innovation and perseverance brought electricity to his Malawian village, thus saving his community from drought and starvation. This book his highly relatable to my students as the author and main character is their age and dreamt of something than our society takes for granted. Without this book, my students will be missing out on the opportunity to experience a true page turner. This gift will not only support their reading comprehension skills but also reinforce their love of learning and see classroom concepts being used in the real world - changing it for the better!
