One of the best ways to make our world a better place is to start with our young kids. By teaching acceptance, equality, and respect for all people, we are creating generations who truly understand and believe that Black lives (and all lives) matter. This is why I am working hard to create a classroom culture that teaches love, respect, and equality for everyone, and the best place to start is with the books I provide in my classroom library. Kids need to see all races, abilities, genders, and cultures in the books they read. They need to see themselves and people like them, as well as people who are different. Through quality literature, I can help teach them that everyone is special and that everyone, no matter what they look like, deserves love and respect. I am very excited to use these books to create read alouds and discussions while we are learning online. Students will be able to listen to me read, and then we can do discussion questions and groups to learn valuable lessons from the story. Once we are back in class, these lessons will continue but students will also be able to read these books independently as part of our classroom library.
