Imagine driving a car with four flat tires... Not so fun, is it? Now imagine playing an instrument with strings that have not been changed for a decade. The strings are false, do not tune properly, and the unraveling section of the string cuts you every time you try to shift up into position. These are some of the things that the students might experience while playing these types of old strings. Although our middle school orchestra program just started last year, it is steadily growing. We are in dire need of more playable instruments with strings that actually work. The majority of our instruments are shared between class periods. Our biggest goal this year is to start replacing the strings on the instruments, especially those that have not had a proper string change in years. With new strings, students will have better tone quality, intonation, and an overall increase in confidence. With your help, we will finally be able to rebuild the program and help encourage the students to continue pursuing music in high school.
