My mission for my daily mindfulness meditation practice is to provide a set time and space for my students to practice being calm and reflective. School and our daily lives can very busy and chaotic. My students struggle with stress and anxiety on a daily basis and benefit from strategies to get them through these difficult situations. I am fortunate to have an advisory time within our schedule which takes place before my students attend their core classes. We utilize this twenty minute block of time to take a break from our busy day and focus on positive messages to set us up for success through meditation. Due to lack of space in our building, I do not have my own classroom and room share throughout the day. The current room is a STEAM room which has office chairs at tables. Students have the option to sit at their desk or sit/lay on tiled floor. I have witnessed students who sit at a desk being distracted and not fulfilling what the practice is suppose to be about. Providing my students with a yoga mat will help them become more comfortable and less restricted in their space while practicing their daily mindfulness and meditation practice.
