The students at ALBA are on an empowering pathway that will afford them the ability to observe, participate in and express themselves through their bi-cultural, bi-literate lives within the Art classroom. With that being said, the goal of this project is to build the resource library in my Art classroom. Many of the books being requested are in Spanish. Also, many of the books were chosen by the students themselves. Students need these resources in order to integrate cultural symbols, colors and images, of ancient art, into their own culturally relevant artwork. There are many whole school events that celebrate the Latino culture in which students create artwork and crafts that celebrates their culture. In addition to this, my students love learning to draw. They like to borrow books from me or work on a project of their own design when their assigned class work is finished.
