As a first-year teacher, having the correct tools to teach math is so important. Teaching special education students, means constantly finding non-traditional ways for them to learn. One of the best ways is hands-on learning. This is how the math starter kit will help. My students learn best when learning is in relationship to their everyday lives. When they can actually apply math concepts to their day to day experience. My first-year teacher math starter kit will give my students the hands-on tools to do this. The kit will include multi-colored base ten blocks, in which they will use to understand the relationships between numbers and counting, hundred boards, in which they can write everyday numbers from 1 to 100, and geoboards, in which they will use rubber bands to make and understand shapes. All of these tools allow my students to have the hands-on experience to make math concepts a reality.
