The beauty of teaching the ukulele is that it does not take long before students can begin to take ownership over the instrument and the songs they play with it. After the first few weeks, I can begin each class with a few minutes of direct instruction to review hand position, chords, and posture, and then let the students take over from there. It is my experience that when afforded the freedom to tackle the challenges of learning an instrument on their own, students are more deliberate, patient, and creative in their practice. Your donation could play a crucial role in teaching our students the value of hard work, and the reward to be found in working diligently to overcome the challenges associated with learning a musical instrument. This is something that our band students already experience every week, and it is one of the most valuable lessons to be had in the course of a music education. Every student, not just those in band, should be given the same opportunity. There is so much to be gained from conquering just those four strings!
