As the ability to read and comprehend non-fiction texts has become an emphasis in our curriculum, I have searched for valuable teaching tools to use in my classroom. By providing these novels, each student will have the opportunity to become immersed in a highly motivating, educational, and relevant novel. I will teach multiple PA Common Core Standards throughout the text and students will have the opportunity to practice useful comprehension strategies throughout the reading of this authentic text. As our district does not have the funding for new class sets of novels, I (and they!) would be thrilled to bring each student a copy of this worthy resource.
