It's unfortunate that NYC Public School children and teachers are facing an extraordinary time to offer the best educational experience to our children in the midst of a pandemic, civil unrest and economic collapse of vulnerable communities such as the one I teach in. School budgets are slashed and poor districts are not able to come up with alternate funding. It is unreasonable to have families make a choice of providing art supplies or food on their table for their kids. Giving sketchbooks and simple drawing tools will provide students with enough blank paper to work on their assignments from home and having their own drawing tools is essential for Covid-19 safety protocols.
