The class library will serve as an arms-reach source of engaging reading material to encourage independent reading. Whether looking for their favorite author or something completely new, students will increase their reading time, build their vocabulary, and improve their reading comprehension and fluency. The goal is for our classroom library to reflect the reading abilities, needs, and interests of the students. The classroom library will also serve to help students reach their quarterly Accelerated Reader (AR) goal which can only be achieved through recreational reading. I quickly learned that having a classroom library encourages independent recreational reading which is less stressful and allows students to reach their goals at a more comfortable pace. The classroom library is an integral part of establishing an environment that reflects the importance of reading, writing, and language as keys to academic and personal success.
