My students currently only have access to library books, laptops once a week and books that I have provided in my classroom. Textbooks are where we are getting a majority of our nonfiction reading from. With a subscription to Time For Kids, my students will have access to a monthly magazine that is high-interest and be able to read about topics that are relevant to them and the world around us. Being from a slightly isolated, rural community, I am trying to bring as much knowledge and experiences to my students that I can. This will be just one way to help them to not only learn to read, but show them how to READ to LEARN! My ultimate goal as a classroom teacher is to instill in my students a sense of urgency for them to have a purpose, set goals and work hard to achieve them. I think allowing them to learn about the world around them is key!
