When I asked my students what makes our classroom to learn some of their top answers were that we work together and we work hard. When I asked what would make our classroom an even better place to learn, their top requests were more places to sit. Since then we have been working together to rearrange the furniture we have and create a wishlist of seating options we could add to our classroom. My students are noticeably more focused and productive when they are able to their own seat for success. We currently have traditional desks and chairs, tables, scoop chairs, cushions, rugs, and benches. Students are able to choose their own seats for success during independent work time. Overall, they choose their seats thoughtfully and responsibly. However, the students and I have noticed that we could use a few more options, especially for those students who need to wiggle and move a little while they work. The items I have chosen would provide better options for those students and help them to be more successful. Not only would this project help my students as learners, but it would also show them that their plans and ideas are valued and supported. I hope to see their classroom redesign dreams come true!
