My Spanish-speaking students often struggle with reading because the texts we have available are too far outside of their Lexile level. As such, most of my ELL students think they hate reading. My goal with this project is to curate novels at (or slightly above) their Lexile levels to engage them with reading in English. I have selected a variety of books between 450–800 Lexile level for my kids to self-select and engage with. I will use these novels to set up reading groups with the students so they can read and discuss the books in English. I hope to give them a chance to discover a love for reading!
