When you ask students, and in reality adults, what their least favorite subject is, they often reply, MATH! When asked why, their response usually includes something along the lines of “It’s hard”. Math can be difficult for students, especially for ones who feel like they can never successfully grasp what seems to be the endlessly changing topics in mathematics. Students feel like they are constantly learning new and different concepts but do not realize that often times they are actually just adding a little more information or an extra step, to something that they already know. With this in mind, I want to be able to create a classroom set of binders where all of my math students will keep their notes during their entire high school math career. As the Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 teacher, I truly believe that by students being able to look at their work and notes from the past that they can build confidence in the math they are doing in the present. Everyone agrees that math builds on itself and I believe our students' math notes should do the same thing. These classroom binders and dividers will allow students to organize their math notes alphabetically so they can refer to them quickly, recognize previous and similar topics, and will guarantee that they have them whenever they need during the three or four years that they are enrolled in a math class.
