I work in an urban school where the students don't have a ton access to books that interest them at their levels. Lemony Snickets "Series of Unfortunate Events" is written in a way that they cannot only read well by themselves at lower reading levels, but also themes and character complex enough to hold their interest and allow us to dive deeper into the themes. My students are obsessed with the creepy and the macabre and I would love to use that interest to help them discover less know literature! This novel series will allow us to continue the theme of this class - which is a novel/film comparison elective - while also moving out of the short story genre and into full novels.
