Technology plays an important role in my classroom. Our school is very fortunate to have Chromebook carts in each classroom, and we use them almost everyday. Four out of the five days of school, the students in first grade rotate classrooms for leveled reading groups. Groups of students work with a teacher for a section of time and switch to work on educational websites such as Teach Your Monster To Read, Esparks, and more. During centers in my classroom, students have the daily opportunity to utilize these educational learning tools on their own. In order for the technology available to be effective, each student needs their own set of headphones. My students have been using extra headphones from another classroom up until now and these current, borrowed headphones are falling apart. There are no more extra pairs to give to students whose headphones stopped working. As a result, they are missing out on these educational opportunities. With NWEA testing coming up this month, it is vital that they all get working pairs of headphones soon. Being able to provide my class with their own, functioning classroom headphones would facilitate their independent use of technology and encourage responsibility for taking care of them.
