Many of our reading assignments for our English class are geared toward non-fiction or testing. Plath's novel is more relevant than the ancient male author's in our book closet. The connections we can make using Plath's novel as a foundation are endless. We can explore poetry, topics from their AP Psychology class, and save the insightful understandings for a future English class - as my students are on a advanced track. Not only will current and real world examples be connected to the novel, students will have the opportunity to explore their own thoughts and emotions by creating poems that will tie the ideas together. The connections we can make with Plath's novel are endless, and their life experiences can enhance their insight!
