My students often wake up too early to eat breakfast in order to reach our campus. Hunger creates sluggish, irritable kids that struggle to focus and one day of missed assignments can set them back for the week! For example, one of my best kiddos, Maria, has to leave home at around 6:30 AM every morning to make it to campus using city buses and at least two transfers. She stays up late working at Walmart and if I can provide her with a tasty, quick snack, her responsibilities will become less daunting. Students that can count on me to provide them with a simple snack are better suited to face the day's challenges and hunger is a challenge no student in 2020 should face!
