Radio, movies, TV, phones, noise, noise noise! Students are so accustomed to hearing noise all the time, but when it comes time to focus on their academics any little noise seems to distract them. In my classroom, we have 1 to 1 Chromebooks through our technology grant, but students do not have headphones. This means that we can't take full advantage of using our learning programs on the Chromebooks. As I have some students with learning disabilities, there are different programs on the Chromebooks that would help me differentiate their learning as well, but the majority of these programs require them to listen to directions or stories being read aloud. With headphones, my students will be able to advance in their personalized learning program (iReady). I will also be able to set up individualized learning stations in order to meet their learning needs. Our school district also recently had purchased new curriculum which is internet based in order to teach the students research methods through watching videos, creating lessons, and online searches. Having individual headphones will allow my students to focus on their own academic learning and not become distracted. The use of individual headphones will make such a huge difference in my students' academic goals and learning.
