As an educator I am committed to growing and evolving my teacher toolbox in order to best educate my students. My school and many others in our district, has seen great student growth and achievement through the lens of 21st Century Education. 21st Century Education is instruction using technology to improve literacy and math achievement in students. Unfortunately, I do not have the ability implement more 21st Century Learning skills in my classroom due to lack of technology. Because of this, the students in my classroom are missing out on opportunities to improve their literacy and math skills through the use of technology. I am proposing my classroom receive a set of tablets. These tablets will be safely used for fun and effective online literacy and math resources such as Raz Kids and Starfall during independent learning time. My students enjoy and crave the use of technology in our classroom. I believe this new classroom tool will help motivate my students to become better readers and mathematicians through the use of fun, academic focused games and learning tools. These tablets will also give them an opportunity to learn how to safely and respectfully handle electronics. Additionally, I am asking for a set of covers to keep the tablets safe and protected. I believe I will be able to measure the success of this proposed project by using the scores of my student’s winter and spring Measures of Academic Progress assessments. The spring scores should reflect an improvement in literacy and math skills. Through the funding of a set of tablets, the students in my classroom will have more opportunities to grow academically and to engage in fun and exciting technology-based literacy and math programs.
