One of my main goals as an English Language Arts teacher in this setting, is to promote Emotional Intelligence as well as learning through the pleasure of reading. I want my students to continue to use reading as a coping skill, as well as an escape when they need to. Being an adolescent can be difficult enough, let alone adding the pressures of the many struggles that these students have faced while growing up. I want my students to experience life through these characters and learn the difference between positive and negative choices. My students need multiple books in a series as well as individual novels. "A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, but the man who never reads lives only one" - George Martin.
