Each class period begins with students working problems from yesterday's lesson written on the whiteboard. While students are working at the board I have the opportunity to check their homework assignments. Right now I have room for at most 4 problems without students working under each other. I have space in my classroom for an 8 foot dry erase board that would allow more students to participate in the opening set of problems. Once problems are complete students check each others' work and make corrections as needed. Finding mistakes is a necessary skill that shows a deeper understanding of the problem. This process also gives me the opportunity to teach students how to kindly show someone his error. I would love to have all students working at the boards in groups of two.
