I am an art teacher who is passionate about creating curriculum and using art as a bridge that my students can cross to connect to people and places outside of their own personal boundaries and circumstances. As an art teacher, I actively search for and participate in artistic and innovative pedagogical experiences that will enrich my curriculum and my teaching with the goal of giving my students access to “art bridges” that connect them to new cultures, places, and people. As part of this quest, I started the process of becoming a National Board Certified Teacher in 2018. This year, I am going to submit components dealing with assessment and differentiation. I have been planning and implementing strategies to provide for evidence all year. The process requires an in-depth reflection of my teaching and evidence for knowing and understanding my students' individual needs and concerns. I am going to use the DonorsChoose.org funding to help pay for the out-of-pocket expenses this certification process will cost.
