If our project is funded, students will be able to use the computers in their classrooms to access a reading program we use at our school called Lexia. Lexia is used with our children so they can work on phonological awareness, phonics, structural awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Right now, our students are only able to access Lexia one day a week when our computer lab is open to them. Right now, the majority of our students are below grade level for reading. Having a laptop in each classroom will allow students to receive additional instruction that will prepare them for 1st grade.
