Each of the materials that were chosen for this project can be adapted and changed to be used in multiple ways. What is better than adaptable and versatile materials?! Because I work with kids in all grades, each with a different strengths and weaknesses, I am always looking for a resource that I can use over and over again, that will be engaging for the students, yet target the skills we are working on. From phonological awareness to reading comprehension, to inferencing and vocabulary these materials will allow the students to target their goals in an interactive and hands-on way, beyond a worksheet that they see so much throughout the day! My students all learn in different ways and I want to capitalize on these unique learning styles in any way I can. One of my main goals in my speech room is to create a safe, and accepting learning environment. Giving my students resources to showcase these strengths and model them for their peers, as well as to build upon their weaker areas is so crucial. I want to provide my students with the skills to understand the language underpinnings of the classroom activities. With these skills, I hope to make their day just a little bit easier in one way or another. And if that means having them come to the speech room and use a new material to work on their goals, and put a smile on their face- there would be nothing better.
