STEM education is driven by learner-centered instruction. A great number of students with disabilities thrive in active, hands-on, problem-solving classroom environments. Giving students the opportunity to participate in STEM activities build problem solving skills, social interactions through teamwork, encourages knowledge application, adaptation-the list goes on and on! Special Education classrooms in particular can benefit from STEM education because of the opportunities for regular movement, smaller class sizes, flexible teaching styles, differentiation, and understanding learning environments. I believe STEM education will enhance the learning opportunities for my students. STEM education that’s driven by a learner-centered instruction can be used to provide students with a powerful educational program.
