Each day, my students reread books we've already practiced. This gives them a chance to solidify previous learning and to work on strategies on a more familiar text. They also receive a specifically targeted new book to introduce new learning. This book is chosen based on the child's interest, reading strengths, and reading needs. The new book provides the opportunity to practice their reading strategies on a different book that is slightly more challenging. With slightly more challenging books every day, the goal is to raise their reading ability. Having more books gives me more tools to help my students get to a higher level and gives me a greater selection of topics and interests to choose from.
