At Spanger Elementary, about one third of our student population is on the free or reduced lunch program. As their librarian, I use every opportunity that I can to introduce all of our students to people, places and subjects that they may not have been exposed to previously. New nonfiction books about animals, history and STEAM subjects will allow us to explore so many exciting new things through read-a-louds, activities, lessons and discussions. I feel that as these children grow up, it is going to be more important than ever that they are exposed to a large variety of subjects. These books will feed the curiosity and love for learning that we promote throughout our school everyday.
