A Sensory Room is a specially designed room which combines a range of stimuli to help individuals develop and engage their senses. These can include lights, colors, sounds, sensory soft play objects, aromas all within a safe environment that allows the person using it to explore and interact without risk. It is a quiet space dedicated to stimulating, developing and relaxing the senses. Unlike school classrooms. Where children are usually expected to watch and listen to the teacher. This room allows them the freedom and autonomy to explore the environment for themselves, in their own time, using all their senses. The decor might include low lighting and adjustable lighting projections, fiber optics, mirrors and bubble tubes; which we will try to purchase later. It will contain various comfortable spaces to sit and a variety of interesting objects to examine. There will also be soft music and aromatherapy. The benefits of sensory a sensory room and the activities inside are: • They provide a therapeutic environment for children with autism and other special educational needs • Sensory equipment can be used to develop a range of physical skills • The sensory room can act as a calming space for pupils experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties • Sensory rooms can help children learn to manage their emotions in a controlled environment, without feeling they are being isolated or punished • Sensory rooms are also an ideal location for Physical and occupational therapy as well as counselling.
