Lexia is an online reading program invented by a father whose son had dyslexia, i.e. problems with reading. When the son improved, the dad made the program available to the public with a fee. My low performing school is located in a low income area in South San Jose, is implementing Lexia to help students achieve their reading goals. When students use Lexia on their iPads in class, the sound coming from the device should go into a headphone, so it does not distract the other learners. If the noise becomes too loud, some students have to sit far away, and possibly on the floor, or to a corner to have some quiet working time. So far, most of the class have moved up in their reading level, but it is hard to concentrate when you hear noises around you. If all my students had headphones, they could do better in Lexia.
