When working with my second graders I have noticed that second grade is often the first time that many children have really gotten a chance to read and listen to various biographies and stories about people who have overcome huge obstacles in their life. Children at this age are starting to empathize more and learn that there are many other people in our world that have overcome great obstacles to help themselves and others. I want them to see that by learning about other amazing human beings with a growth mindset they too can dream big and start to discover what they hope to accomplish. By introducing these stories to my students I hope that they are encouraged and inspired to dream big and have hope for their bright futures.
