Students have different learning needs. Some may need a quiet place, others may need a loud bustling environment. Some may need to move, wiggle and stand while others do not. Students with different needs may not get there needs met in a large, busy school environment. Something as simple as bands on a chair for wiggly feet, a piece of gum or hi-chew to help organizing or a soft place to sit in the quiet part of the room to enhance learning is all it may take. I am working on building my therapy room and providing alternative seating for the students who benefit most. While seating options and sensory strategies work, it is also providing an explanation as to why!
