Students from lower-income areas have trouble seeing themselves with a future in STEM... especially girls. I hope to break that stigma and show my students what success they can have in mathematics, computer science, coding, robotics, engineering, and other fields in STEM. I hope to open their eyes to what they can do with these skills and build the confidence they need to see STEM as part of their future.
In the IF/THEN Collection it said, "If we give visibility to a woman in STEM, THEN she has the power to transform lives," and that is exactly what I hope to do with this project. I will incorporate the IF/THEN Collection to show successful women in STEM as well as the book Girls Who Code by Reshma Saujani and hopefully inspire them. I will focus our attention on the success that women are having as well as those from low-income backgrounds.
Please help my students get these coding robotic kits so they can put what we've learned about computer science and coding to use in a hands-on real-world application. We will also need headphones so they can work through their coding lessons without interrupting others, as many programs they practice incorporate sound.
Thank you so much for thinking of my students!
