Sensory processing is our brains ability to organize sensory information for use in daily life. Many of our students have difficulties processing and responding to visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, tactile, proprioception (body awareness), and vestibular (movement) sensory information throughout their school day. The sensory room provides our preschoolers with a safe place to help them regulate their sensory needs, emotions, and impulses in order to meet the demands of the school environment and respond appropriately to daily tasks. The peapods, lights, sensory wall, and animal hippity-hops will provide our students with additional ways for them to regulate their levels of arousal! The peapods provide our students with deep proprioceptive input to help them calm their bodies. The animal hippity-hops provide alerting vestibular input that help them understand how their bodies are moving through space. The lights and sensory wall provide our students with a way for them explore their visual and tactile sensory systems. This equipment will help our students not only when they are in the sensory space, but will also help them return to a ready state of learning to participate in their school environment throughout the day!
