Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. When you come into a counselors office to talk, the last thing you need is an unwelcoming sterile environment. Currently my office is filled with the 'left over' cold, hard furniture of the school. And the school had left over furniture from the 70's. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a warm inviting place to talk. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them comfortable seating options when they want/need to talk to someone. It is my job to make my office a less restrictive environment when they are not being productive with the classroom. The over sized desk chairs will allow students to sit at a 'desk' and still able to use their Chromebooks. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to be in a different environment. The comfy rectangle 'couch' seat will allow the student a nice place to sit while we talk and provide social distancing for us both. The rug will warm up the space by getting rid of the cold tile flooring. And the office chair is honestly because I am stilling on a stool from the 70's that is uncomfortable and I sit in on average 7 hours a day. I have seen how choice can positively affect students' ability to open up and be more willing to talk and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
