We teach in an urban school district. Many parents do not have the time and supplies to work on cooking, let alone work on cooking with students with autism. Together, our special education team will help our students learn basic cooking vocabulary, how to follow a recipe, and even about the dangers involved in cooking. Students will learn how to measure sugar when making cookies in the toaster oven. Students will learn how to use a spatula on a hot plate when making pancakes. Although these tasks are not academic, they are essential to life skills. Students will make cookies, pancakes, and other fun items.
