The Cougar Cove Mindfulness Room will be a space available to ALL students at Columbine Elementary, to help them learn social-emotional skills that are vital to their success not only in the classroom, but in life. The Cougar Cove will be filled with self-regulation tools that students can use and practice ways to help themselves manage difficult emotions and behaviors that may be getting in the way of their learning and growth. The Cougar Cove Mindfulness Room will be a sanctuary for students struggling with difficult emotions and behaviors, and will provide them with tools to develop the essential social and emotional skills that will allow them to succeed in life. With the tools we provide them through this project, students will be able to explore various ways to regulate themselves such as deep breathing, body movement and stretching, mindfulness activities, positive affirmations, and therapeutic explogration through artistic expression. This project promises to be a vital step in many students' journeys of self-awareness and will provide opportunities for students to gain social and emotional skills that will last a lifetime, and therefore, will contribute to society as a whole.
